Its November 21st.
The Eastern Orthodox holy celebration of the Archangel Michael, titled “Archistrategos”, or “Supreme Commander of the Heavenly Hosts.”
Over the last several years, my family has developed a strong devotion to angels, especially with young children.
Angels have become the vehicle for dealing with loss and longing.
Archangel Michael is mentioned in a number of Eastern Orthodox hymns and prayer, and his icons are widely used within Eastern Orthodox churches.
In these icons, Christ is accompanied by a number of angels, Michael being a predominant figure among them.
Michael is seen as the one who presents to God the prayers of the just.
It is he who defeats the devil.
In Ukraine, he is the patron saint of the capital, Kyiv.
And it is he who accompanies the souls of the dead to heaven.
Its been a tough week.
And today is my birthday.
I hope that Михайло has done his job.
